The Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) Post Graduate Society and BEST are teaming up to host a lunch for PhDs and postdocs in any field who are interested in learning how Ivan translated his PhD and postdoctoral work into a startup, how he became an entrepreneur, and the decisions he made to find his career path. If you seek to develop your entrepreneurial mindset or think you might want to join a startup after Cornell, please register for the lunch, limited to 25 people. Lunch will be at noon in the Atrium (glassed in room in the same area as the auditorium).

About the speaker:

Ivan Liachko received his PhD '07 with Bik Tye in Genetics, Genomics and Development. He completed post-doctoral work at the University of Washington with Maitreya Dunham, and in 2015 set up his own company called Phase Genomics. He serves as Founder/Chief Scientist of the start up that offers to customers a genome and metagenome assembly platform service based on proximity-ligation methods that he invented. The company's mission is to empower scientists with genomic tools that accelerate breakthrough discoveries.

Phase Genomics is currently seeking a data scientist and machine learning engineer to join their team in Seattle, WA. Look for them at the upcoming International Plant & Animal Genome XXVII (Jan.) and ASM (May) conferences.
