As a new Faculty-in-Residence, Schaffer will promote intellectual engagement in students’ daily lives through one-on-one, informal mentoring to discuss potential career paths. He will also bring in guest speakers to serve as role models. As part of Learning Where You Live Schaffer will teach courses to promote lifelong learning and to explain that science is a creative and collaborative process of discovery. Part of the experience will include shadowing a postdoc or graduate student to get to know that science is a creative and collaborative process of discovery, something that is usually not experienced until much later in their studies.
