Mark Bayer - Make Your Mark in D.C.

Mark Bayer, Founder and President of Bayer Strategic Consulting, was invited by ASAP (Advancing Science And Policy) and GPSAFC to give a talk entitled:  "From Congress to Consulting: Opportunities to Make Your Mark in DC."   Mark started his own consulting company that he shaped by nearly two decades of experience across government, corporate, and non-profit sectors. He was a Chief of Staff in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, and co-founder and Board Chairman of a non-profit organization. His expertise is in homeland security, telecommunications, healthcare and non-profit management. These are some of the participants' takeaways:

One of the most important take away messages that Mark emphasized during his talk was the power of networking, especially in the science policy field. Through the tool of networking, he was able to build strong coalitions to accomplish positive policy changes. Overall, Mark used descriptive examples from his career to discuss key lessons he learned while working in congress, and I found his examples very insightful and useful for my own future career in policy.
